Leaders of the Accord Party in Lagos State have called on the party’s leadership to clarify its constitutional provisions and disciplinary procedures in response to concerns over political activities that may conflict with the party’s interests.

The party leaders stressed the need to protect Accord’s candidates nationwide, particularly those contesting legislative seats in Osun State. They maintained that members who have invested time, resources and effort in building the party must be assured that their contributions will not be overlooked.

They also warned that uncertainty surrounding the political positions of senior party figures could weaken grassroots mobilisation, discourage committed members and damage Accord’s credibility as an alternative political platform.

In their letter, the Lagos leaders specifically referenced Accord’s presidential candidate, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, arguing that the party needed a clear and unified political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the leaders, party officials, members and candidates must operate within a coherent framework that promotes unity, accountability and a shared commitment to the party’s electoral objectives.

“We are not asking for political hostility. We are asking for clarity. We are not seeking personal confrontation. We are seeking accountability to the political platform under which you were elected,” the letter stated.

Concerns Over Adeleke’s Reported Political Position

The development follows reports that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The concerns expressed by the Lagos Accord leaders centre on the potential implications of the governor’s reported political position for the party’s unity, electoral strategy and candidates seeking public office under its platform.

The leaders believe that the party’s national leadership should address the matter clearly to prevent misunderstandings and ensure that members understand the rules governing political conduct within Accord.

Call for Dialogue and Due Process

The letter urged Governor Adeleke and the party’s national leadership to resolve the matter transparently and in accordance with the party’s constitution and established procedures.

The leaders emphasised that their objective was not to create unnecessary political tension or interfere with governance in Osun State, but to safeguard the party’s unity, strengthen internal accountability and protect its prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

They maintained that clear communication and consistent application of party rules would help restore confidence among members, strengthen grassroots participation and demonstrate that Accord remains committed to its political principles.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections continue, the response of the party’s leadership could prove important in determining how Accord manages internal disagreements while maintaining its electoral ambitions.
