A former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has passed away.

His Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday.

Akingboye, popularly known as OBA, reportedly died at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos.

Until his death, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as the President of WeAfrica Group. He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.

Describing him as a man of “unwavering integrity,” the statement highlighted his contributions as a philanthropist, businessman, and community leader who touched many lives.

He is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Details of his burial arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course.

The death of Akingboye, who once contested the governorship seat in Ondo State under the platform of the SDP, has been described by political associates and admirers as a huge loss to the state and the nation at large.
