NSE Akure Branch Unveils 2025 Engineering Week
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Akure Branch, has unveiled the programme of activities for its 2025 Engineering Week, with the theme, “Engineering for a Better Nigeria: Innovation and Progress in Challenging Times.”
Speaking at a press conference in Akure, the Branch Chairman, Engr. Oluwaseun D. Adeyeye, FNSE, said the week was carefully designed to celebrate the engineering profession and highlight its contributions to national development, especially in the face of economic difficulties, infrastructural deficits, and environmental challenges confronting the country.
Adeyeye noted that Nigerian engineers possess the expertise and capacity to provide transformative solutions in areas such as sustainable energy, resilient infrastructure, digital technology, and local manufacturing.
He stressed that the week-long programme would create a platform for knowledge sharing, professional networking, and community engagement, while also showcasing the achievements of engineers across Ondo State.
Activities lined up for the week
- Day 1: Press Conference at 10 am to highlight branch activities and achievements.
- Day 2: Morning Health Walk at 7 am to promote healthy living, followed by APWEN Day at 11 am, focused on encouraging young girls to embrace STEM education.
- Day 3: Reception for the National Coordinator of the NSE Spouses’ Forum at 11 am and the Young Engineers’ Programme at 12 pm.
- Day 4: Spouses’ Programme at 10 am and the Annual General Meeting/Election at 3 pm.
- Day 5: Jumat Service at Akure Central Mosque at 1:30 pm to foster interfaith harmony.
- Day 6: Induction, Dinner and Award Night at 3 pm to honour outstanding engineers and welcome new members.
- Day 7: Thanksgiving Service at RCCG Victory Mega Parish at 8:30 am.
Branch achievements
Highlighting the achievements of the 2024/2025 executive, Adeyeye listed the engagement of an Office Assistant to enhance operations, the successful holding of 10 general meetings where technical papers were presented by experts, and the constitution of committees to strengthen administration and teamwork.
He commended members, fellows, and past chairmen of the branch for their steadfast support, describing their commitment to the engineering profession as inspiring.
Also present at the briefing were the General Secretary, Engr. Owolabi Oluwatomisin, MNSE; the Vice Chairman, Engr. Mrs. Seun Borokini, MNSE; and the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Akure Chapter, Engr. Adeyonu A. A., MNSE, alongside the branch chairman.
